Players hit high notes but fail to top charts

David Beckham was a talented player, but his brand outweighed his footballing skills
I bought a couple of tickets for The Stone Roses' big summer gig in Marlay Park the other day in another desperate attempt to cling on to the last remnants of the carefree, halcyon days of the late eighties and early nineties by my ever-decreasing fingernails.

I'm far from a fanatical fan of the Manchester madcaps but they did manage to get a toe or two tapping back in the day, and when you've got a couple of young kids at home any opportunity to let the hair down and relive the long lost days of rock and roll is always welcome.
There's a few other pals of mine that will also be making the pilgrimage to Rathfarnham in July, although one friend reacted to the purchase of the tickets with the question: 'possibly the most over-rated band in the history of music?'.
Obviously, they haven't produced a body of work like The Beatles or, to draw a sporting analogy, never threatened to have the longevity of Ryan Giggs, but like Michael Owen during his heyday at Liverpool there was a very brief period when they had a real swagger and could be considered world class.
Oasis, on the other hand, surely do deserve the 'most over-rated' tag and in footballing terms would be more Jozy Altidore than Lionel Messi.
Anyway, the exchange got me thinking about the most over-rated footballers that have managed to dupe clubs and fanatical fans into believing that they're really better than they are.
Of course there have been a bucket-full of average players that have changed clubs for ridiculously inflated transfer fees that have turned out to be complete flops, like Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres, but for the purpose of this column we'll concentrate on footballers that have been mentioned in the same breath as the world's elite, but maybe don't deserve to be perched on such lofty heights.
There's been plenty of prime examples in the top flight across the water, none more so than English darlings Wayne Rooney and David Beckham.
Rooney may have been among the best in the Premier League for most of his career and has become England's all-time top goal scorer, but when he burst on to the scene as a teenager he promised to be even better.
The suspicion is that he would never have quite cut it at Barcelona or Real Madrid and his poor goal return at major tournaments is another blot on his copybook, although being surrounded by mediocre colleagues is a mitigating factor.
As for Beckham, even though he did manage to line out with one of the Spanish giants it was more about the brand than the footballing skills.
There's no doubting that Beckham was a brilliant crosser and a dead ball specialist but his all-round game wasn't anyway near as mesmerising as some would have you believe.
Brazilian centre-back David Luiz definitely wouldn't be a controversial selection for most. The Paris Saint Germain player may possess some decent ball skills and have an eye for an audacious pass, but in his primary role of defending he is miles short of world class level.
His running around like a headless chicken approach was cruelly exposed by Germany during their 7-1 demolition of the Brazilians in the World Cup semi-final.
Perhaps a more contentious inclusion would be Spanish defender Sergio Ramos, but he certainly suffers from the same defensive limitations as Luiz.
He may have won all before him with Spain and Real Madrid, but with his national side in particular his midfielders monopolise possession to such a degree that his defensive frailties are rarely exposed.
However, the Real Madrid man has amassed a record number of red cards in La Liga, something which clearly illustrates his lack of composure when it comes to the basic arts of defending.
If you looked up over-rated in a dictionary, it would come as no surprise if you saw a brooding, sulky Mario Balotelli staring back at you.
He can be brilliant at times, as he showed in Italy's Euro 2012 semi-final win over Germany, but all too often his antics off the pitch outweigh his fleeting fireworks on it. Inter, AC Milan, Manchester City and Liverpool have all put faith in the volatile striker, but he rarely lives up to the billing.
Speaking of a fiery frontman, Ian Brown and co. will strut their stuff in front of expectant Dublin on the eve of the Euro 2016 final.
What odds on the Republic of Ireland lining out against a bunch of over-rated English players in the European showpiece?
More chance of The Beatles making a comeback!

Best league in the world? Not anymore it’s not

Joe Hart
The Premier League, which despite plenty of evidence to the contrary, still likes to style itself as the best league in the world, has received something of a reality check with the publication of Uefa’s shortlist for its team of the year
Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus have more players on the 40-man list for its team of the year than the entire Premier League combined.
Barcelona provide eight players, while Bayern and Juventus both have six.
The Premier League contributes a meagre five players: Manchester City keeper Joe Hart, team-mates Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.
Hart is the solitary English player on the list. He is joined by Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale as the only British players selected.
The selection reflects a particularly poor season in European competition for Premier League clubs, not one of whom made it beyond the last 16 round in either the Champions League or the Europa League.
The shortlist features four goalkeepers, 12 defenders, 12 midfielders and 12 strikers.
Fans can vote for the team of the year on Uefa’s website until 5 January.

The 40-man shortlist:

Goalkeepers – Joe Hart (Manchester City), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Denys Boyko (Dnipro).
Defenders – Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus), David Alaba (Bayern Munich), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), David Luiz (Paris St-Germain), Dani Alves (Barcelona), Thiago Silva (Paris St-Germain), Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich), Ricardo Rodriguez (Wolfsburg), Javier Mascherano (Barcelona), Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid), Gerard Pique (Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid).
Midfielders – Grzegorz Krychowiak (Sevilla), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Ivan Rakitic (Barcelona), Arturo Vidal (Bayern Munich), Eden Hazard (Chelsea), Claudio Marchisio (Juventus), Marco Verratti (Paris St-Germain), Yevhen Konoplyanka (Sevilla), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), James Rodriguez (Real Madrid), Paul Pogba (Juventus), Hakan Calhanoglu (Bayer Leverkusen).
Forwards – Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris St-Germain), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), Neymar (Barcelona), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Alvaro Morata (Juventus), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Luis Suarez (Barcelona), Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid).

In pictures: Are these the worst ever haircuts in Scottish football?

NEW Dundee United signing Aaron Kuhl was quickly compared to David Luiz and Sideshow Bob upon his arrival, but he isn't sporting the worst barnet we've seen in Scottish football...

Dundee United unveil new signing Aaron Kuhl

HE came into Scottish football under the transfer deadline day radar.
But youngster Aaron Kuhl, who joined Dundee United on loan from Reading, has certainly caught the attention of Scottish football fans after being unveiled by the Terrors.
The 19-year-old's curly locks got social media talking, with fans comparing the English midfielder to Brazilian star David Luiz - and, obviously, Simpsons character Sideshow Bob.
But Kuhl shouldn’t feel singled out, there have been a lot of bizarre and questionable haircuts in Scottish football over the years.
Here, we’ve a compiled a list of the worst ever haircuts to grace our game. Check them out in the gallery below.

Six of the most underrated grafters in Premier League history

We all love a hard-worker in our team, but what really makes that player extra special at a club is when his work goes unnoticed by many across the top-flight.
A reason behind that is football teams up and down the continent tend to enjoy the player’s qualities more when opponents are not that aware of what he has to offer, something which has occurred several times since the Premier League was formed back in 1992.
Nemanja Matic is an example of one that has gone about his work brilliantly at Chelsea since retuning to the club and whilst many teams are now aware of what the Serbian can offer, a similar thing is unfolding at Arsenal with Francis Coquelin.
There is always that one engine in every team – usually anyway. So we’ve decided to list the most underrated grafters who really don’t/didn’t get the praise they deserve from the Premier League across the years, on the day of one of Arsenal’s finest ever players’ birthday – the one and only underrated grafter, Emmanuel Petit.

Michael Essien

Michael Essien joined Chelsea back in 2005 from French giants Lyon and the Ghana international went on to have a glittering and memorable nine-year spell with the four-time Premier League champions.
Winning the title on two occasions with Chelsea, Essien also got his hands on four FA Cups and one Champions League – playing a part in the spine-tingling success against Bayern Munich in 2012.
The 32-year-old was often hit with serious injuries and that overshadowed a large amount of his time at the Bridge, before he eventually moved on to Real Madrid, AC Milan and now Panathinaikos.
In his prime, the former Bastia man was one of the most feared and talented central midfielders in England, something which a lot of the time went under the radar.

Gilberto Silva

Arsenal fans will remember Brazilian colossus Gilberto Silva with fondness, after the 38-year-old helped the Gunners to a series of silverware during his six years at the club.
The former central midfielder made the move to England back in 2002 from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro, where he had spent two years prior.
Whilst Silva was relatively unknown to many during the year 2002, the Brazilian made his mark at the World Cup in the Far East – a tournament he was called up to by Luiz Felipe Scolari as a surprise to many.
Silva ended up playing in every minute of every match of the tournament after an injury to Emerson prior to the competition and the midfielder’s showings earned him a switch to Arsenal, where he went on to play a big role in the ‘Invincibles’ season.
Runner-up in the Champions League, two-time FA Cup and Community Shield winner, and one-time Premier League champion, Silva allowed Arsenal’s flamboyant attacking stars do the fancy work, whilst he went about his work quietly in the middle of the park.
237 appearances yielded just 24 goals, highlighting Silva’s focus on doing the dirty work.
Gilberto Silva

Ray Parlour

Another Arsenal man in here, but we just could not ignore Romford’s finest in Ray Parlour – a man who spent 12 years with the Gunners and won plenty of silverware.
Parlour was rarely appreciated by rival supporters, but the ten-cap former England international was a fan favourite at Highbury and was renowned for his never-say-die attitude.
Joining Arsenal as a trainee in 1989, Parlour made his debut for the Gunners against Liverpool in January 1992 and went on to make 455 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Whilst many may remember Parlour’s time at the club as a series of substitute appearances, the Englishman had a bigger part to play than just that and only once did he make less than 18 appearances in a season – his first campaign in 1991/92 yielded six games.
Three Premier League titles – four times runner-up – three FA Cups and one League Cup, Parlour knew what success was all about.

Nicky Butt

One of Manchester United’s finest servants was a graduate of the ‘Class of ’92′; Nicky Butt. The former England international, like Parlour, was never really appreciated by opposition fans, but Manchester United supporters knew what he was all about.
Butt spent 12 years in the Manchester United first-team before moving to Newcastle United in 2004, but it was at Old Trafford where his hard-work and sheer determination was a pleasure to behold.
The former central midfielder 387 appearances over 12 seasons at the club and, whilst a large number of them were played in various positions and coming off the bench, Butt always put in 110%.
Winning six league titles, three FA Cups and one Champions League was testament to the sort of career the now Manchester United coach had.
Nicky Butt

David Batty

David Batty may be remembered by many for having a penalty saved by Carlos Roa at the 1998 World Cup which prevented the team from advancing to the quarter-finals, but the hard-working Englishman had an extremely productive career.
The 46-year-old spent seven years with Leeds United where he made 211 league appearances for the Yorkshire outfit, before moving on to Blackburn, Newcastle and then returning to Elland Road for a second spell.
Batty was not renowned for his exactly elegant style, but he was a grafter and more times than not the midfield engine covered every blade of grass during a hugely successful 18 years in senior football.

Luka Modric

Many may be surprised by Luka Modric’s inclusion here, but Tottenham Hotspur fans will tell you that the Croatian can build-up play just as well as he can stop it – his energy and graft are vital in the middle of the park.
The 30-year-old Croatia international was a star in North London with the Lilywhites, before he swapped the English capital for the Spanish one in 2012.
After a tough start to life in Madrid, the Zadar-born midfielder has built up a name for himself and is arguably one of the most important ingredients in the Real Madrid squad.

Covering every blade of grass more times than not, Modric has become renowned for his swash-buckling capabilities as well as his astute play on the ball.

Luiz: Why I Comforted Crying James

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has explained why he consoled Real Madrid's James Rodriguez at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
After the quarter-final between Colombia and Brazil, Luiz, then a Chelsea player, comforted James as the rest of his teammates celebrated making it through to the semi-finals.
Luis was hailed all over the world for his sporting attitude, and the Brazilian explained that he knew how hard James and Colombia had worked to reach the quarter-final, and that's why he comforted him.
"With James Rodriguez, it was just totally spontaneous," he told Bleacher Report.
"Everyone was seeing the World Cup that he was having.
"At the moment where everyone was swapping shirts, I saw him crying, and I understood how hard Colombia had worked to be there.
"He'd played a great World Cup, with a great generation of Colombian players, and I felt sad for him at that moment.
"What I've learned in life is that you can't always win, especially in sport, but you can be a true champion for everything you did to get there."
Luiz captained his country in the semi-final against Germany, where they suffered a 7-1 defeat to the eventual champions of the competition.
The 28-year-old has played 49 games for Brazil, scoring three goals.
Do you think Luiz showed true professionalism when he comforted James after Brazil’s win? Let us know in the comments section below.

David Luiz bites back at Neville's 'Playstation' jibe: He lacked respect… he's still learning

The former Chelsea defender insists he holds no grudge against the England coach and indicated that the departure from the Blues was his decision
David Luiz bites back at Neville's 'Playstation' jibe: He lacked respect… he's still learning
Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has suggested that former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville lacked respect when likening the Brazil international to a 10-year-old on a PlayStation.
The former Chelsea player formed part of Laurent Blanc's 2014/15 Ligue 1 winning side, after leaving Stamford Bridge following the 2014 World Cup.
But Luiz, who was singled out for criticism following Brazil's 7-1 defeat to Germany in the World Cup semi-final, indicated that though Neville's comments were wrong, he does not hold a grudge.
"I think that respect is imperative," Luiz told Bleacher Report.
"I’m not saying that people have to like me or that nobody can criticise me. Do it with reason and balance, though, with responsibility. Not lacking respect.
"You can criticise someone, say they didn’t play well. That’s fine. When Gary Neville talked about me being like something out of a video game, that’s the sort of thing that lacks respect, especially because he was a player.
"But I reacted in a positive way because I know that he’s learning, and he’s growing into a new profession. I think he realised that he’d made a mistake, and he spoke well of me later on. These things happen."
The 28-year-old also commented on his departure from Chelsea and his relationship with manager Jose Mourinho during and after the 2014 World Cup, with the defender insisting that the move to PSG was his choice.
"I’d had four happy years at Chelsea, and they offered me a new contract, but I preferred to go. It was my decision," Luiz added.
"When I left [the Chelsea squad at the end of the 2013/14 season], I was with Brazil, and I didn’t really have any contact with [Mourinho].
"I was in Brazil on holiday first, then preparing for the World Cup. Everything was presented to me, I accepted, and he sent me a little message saying ‘good luck.’
"Afterwards, I went straight to Paris. I didn’t go back to London."

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz thrilled with reunion

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz is delighted to be reunited with Angel di Maria and believes the attacker will only make his team better.

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz is delighted to have been reunited with Angel di Maria and believes the attacker will only make his team better.
The Ligue 1 champions completed the signing of Di Maria from Manchester United on Thursday in a deal believed to be worth 63million.
He missed PSG's 1-0 win over Lille to start their league campaign on Friday, but could be fit for the August 16 clash against Gazelec Ajaccio.
Luiz and Di Maria played together at Benfica, and the former is thrilled to be alongside the 27-year-old once more.
"He is a huge player, great player, great person," the Brazil international said.
"I'm very happy to play with him again. I think he can bring many positive things for us."
PSG started their Ligue 1 season with a win thanks to a Lucas Moura goal and despite playing over an hour with 10 men after Adrien Rabiot saw red.
Luiz said PSG's approach in the second half was ideal.
"Great match, great spirit. We played well. I think our plan for the second half was perfect," he said.
"We closed the gaps, they didn't play in between the lines, and then play counter-attack or possession with the ball with the quality of our players, so I'm happy."
Luiz added: "It's a win for the club, not just 10 guys.
"I think the support of the players from the bench, they help you. At half-time everyone was believing that we could win. It's for the group, not just 10 guys."

PSG ease past Lyon in Champions Trophy

PSG crowned 2015 champions after convincing display.
Paris Saint-Germain started the new season on Saturday just as they ended the old, lifting silverware in the shape of the French Champions Trophy thanks to a 2-0 win over Lyon in Montreal.
Two early goals by Serge Aurier and Edinson Cavani put Paris in control of the traditional season-opening contest and left Lyon with a mountain to climb long before their captain Maxime Gonalons was sent off in the 64th minute.
Having completed an unprecedented clean sweep of the domestic honours in France last season, this win underlined their status as the team to beat again in the coming campaign.
Tipped to be their main challengers once more, Lyon were invited to face the treble winners after finishing second to them in Ligue 1 last season as the Champions Trophy was played outside France for the seventh year in a row.
But, weakened by a series of injuries to key players and by the absence of suspended starlet Nabil Fekir, Lyon never looked like winning a game played in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Saputo Stadium in the largest city of Canada's French-speaking Quebec province.
A strong PSG side featuring German summer signing Kevin Trapp in goal opened the scoring in the 11th minute as the Lyon defence failed to clear a free-kick into the box and David Luiz drove the ball back into the six-yard box for his fellow defender Aurier to head home.
The second goal arrived just six minutes later when Anthony Lopes saved from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cavani, who started pre-season late after featuring for Uruguay at the Copa America, lashed home the loose ball.
With last season's top scorer and player of the year Alexandre Lacazette unable to make an impression, Lyon offered little at the other end and Blaise Matuidi missed a great chance to increase PSG's lead after Lopes saved from Ibrahimovic's extravagant backheeled effort.
Ibrahimovic, who has been in good form during his club's pre-season tour of North America as he enters the last year of his PSG contract, fired wide in the second half when finding himself with just Lopes to beat.
And shortly after he was on the receiving end of a Gonalons challenge that saw the Lyon captain pick up a second yellow card and depart for an early bath.
"The mood in the camp is good. It is early days but we have prepared well," Matuidi told beIN Sports.
"The season will be long. Now we have spent 18 days abroad and it is difficult, so we are looking forward to going home, seeing our families again and resting before the season starts."
Fresh from winning a third successive Champions Trophy, Laurent Blanc's PSG side start their title defence at Lille on Friday, while Lyon will begin the new Ligue 1 season at home to Lorient next Sunday.

Paris Saint-Germain Charm Offensive Continues, Pastore Praises Di Maria

The Paris Saint-Germain charm offensive continues as they look to announce the imminent signing of Manchester United’s Angel Di Maria. Javier Pastore is the latest member of Laurent Blanc’s squad to praise Di Maria and has even admitted that Di Maria revealed his desire to join PSG .
Javier Pastore followed in the footsteps of his teammates and coach earlier today when he praised his compatriot Angel Di Maria ahead of his widely-expected transfer from Manchester United to PSG. A fellow Argentinian, Pastore and Di Maria found themselves in close contact over the summer in their country’s run to the final of the Copa America 2015, where they were defeated by hosts Chile.
Di Maria has been a source of great speculation over the past few weeks, with the United record-signing even declining to report for pre-season. Manchester United have subsequently slapped Di Maria with a two-week fine as he failed to join his team on July 25th in San Jose during their tour of the United States. A move to PSG is highly likely to be completed in the coming week with the transfer fee reputed to be 44 Million Pounds. With Laurent Blanc, Zlatan Ibrahimovich, David Luiz and Marco Verrati all expressing their admiration for the Manchester United No. 7, Javier Pastore has even disclosed that Di Maria wishes to join these illustrious names at the Parc-Des-Princes.
Pastore
As reported in the Daily Mail, Pastore stated ‘He (Di Maria) wants to come. He is a very great player. Plus, he alone can win important matches.’‘I told him to join us. He also asked me many questions about the club, the city and the way of life for his family.’
The French champions were amongst the frontrunners for Di Maria’s signature last year, but had to pull out due  Financial Fair Play Restrictions. With a lifting on the sanctions this year, PSG are prepared to pay Manchester United a reported 44 Million Pounds for the Argentinian. While that would represent a loss of 15 Million Pounds, United would want to decisively resolve the transfer saga.
Angel Di Maria
Di Maria’s loss of form and consistency, adding to his personal unhappiness at life in England saw him transform from United’s stellar signing to a problem child. Relations between the club and player hit a new low after his failure to report for pre-season and subsequent disappearance. With a month of the transfer market remaining, United would also want to sell Di Maria and reinvest in their squad, with Barcelona’s winger Pedro being considered as his direct replacement.

PSG vs. Lyon: Score and Reaction from 2015 Champion's Trophy

Paris Saint-Germain continued their fine pre-season form by capturing the French Super Cup in Montreal on Saturday, as they convincingly beat Lyon 2-0.
Goals from Serge Aurier and Edinson Cavani were enough on the night, as the capital city superclub boldly marched toward the new campaign with a confident performance.
PSG started the match in their preferred 4-3-3 formation, with both Cavani and Lucas Moura supporting Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack. Lyon mirrored their opponent's approach, featuring the highly rated Alexandre Lacazette as striker.
The Ligue 1 champions began the match in full control, dominating possession as Ibra found plenty of space in which to operate.
And PSG made it count, stealing into an early 11th-minute lead through the most simple of headed finishes by Aurier. A set piece pinballed around the Lyon penalty box, landing at the feet of PSG centre-back David Luiz, whose cross was converted by the full-back.

Paris No Limit captured the moment on social media:
The Parisians soon doubled their lead just six minutes later as Uruguay hitman Cavani struck. Ibrahimovic latched onto a fine through ball from Aurier and shot at goal. Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes parried the attempt, only for Cavani to dispatch the rebound, making it 2-0.
Bleacher Report's Peter Galindo congratulated PSG's play and called the action:
PSG continued to dominate the first half, with Ibrahimovic at his most brilliant. The Swede found space at will, and Lyon had no answers for his skill and trickery.
With Cavani advanced in the front three, PSG used Ibra as the central point of focus, allowing him to roam and find the ball.
L'Actu Foot shared footage of the striker's moves as he strutted through his opponent's lines:

The second half continued as if the first hadn't ended—with PSG in full command without breaking sweat. Lyon were constantly pinned inside their own half and did not appear to have the confidence to attack their illustrious rivals.
This allowed PSG to maintain the lion's share of territory, isolating Lacazette away from the main hub of the action.
Aurier put in one of his best displays in a PSG shirt and was a constant menace as he burst from right-back, with Lyon having no defensive answer to his effervescence.
Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson highlighted the Ivorian's brilliant display:
Brazilian defender Thiago Silva almost killed the match as a spectacle after 53 minutes, heading his effort just wide of Lopes' goal—and the writing was very much on the wall for Lyon.
Things got worse for Les Gones just after the hour mark, as French international Maxime Gonalons saw red for a second bookable offence.
Ibra was Lyon's tormentor once again on this occasion, and Gonalons' challenge on the mercurial striker earned him a second yellow card.
Lyon simply could not get into the match and were totally outclassed, forcing manager Hubert Fournier to switch tactics and personnel.
With the game drawing to its obvious conclusion, Zlatan was once again closest to sealing the result, forcing a save from Lopes with a shot from the edge of the box in the dying minutes.
It was a simple day's work for PSG, and the Trophee des Champions was deservedly theirs.
Lyon are miles away from the quality that PSG are currently outputting, and it seems as if only one club can win Ligue 1 this term.
Ibrahimovic looked as impressive as ever, and if the expected arrival of Angel Di Maria materialises, per Sky Sports, PSG will be nearly unstoppable in French football.
Di Maria's quality to assist will see Ibra become even more dangerous, with the Argentinian's pace and creativity being too much for most of the French league's defences.

Manchester United flop Angel Di Maria will make PSG stronger, says David Luiz

DAVID LUIZ claims Manchester United flop Angel Di Maria is still one of the world's best footballers.

Manchester United have agreed a fee of £44million with Paris St Germain for the midfielder, according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
PSG coach Laurent Blanc said on Thursday that a deal for the Argentinian was "close" after the 27-year-old failed to report for pre-season training during the second leg of United's tour of the United States in San Jose last weekend.
Di Maria failed to settle in Manchester following his British record transfer of £59.7m from Real Madrid last year, netting just three times in 27 appearances.
"Di Maria would make us stronger, for sure," said Luiz.
"I hope to see him (at PSG). He is a great friend, a great player, and every single team he plays in, he makes the difference.
"He helps on the defensive side, he knows how to assist, and to score goals."

Angel Di Maria looks dejected after being sent off against Arsenal
Di Maria will be reunited with his South-American colleague after the pair played together during his three-year spell at Benfica between 2007-10.
"I played with him in Benfica when he was just 70 kilos," Luiz added.
"It was great to play with him then and it's great to see how much he has improved, and how he has become a fantastic player. It would be a pleasure to play with him again."
